Legend has it that Perledo means "for Eden", and this shows that we are dealing with a very special place, even for the eastern shore, which is all rather special.

The coastline at Perledo is a wonderful series of terraces sloping down to the centre of the lake, framing the Baroque church of S. Martino with its Romanesque tower.

Queen Teodolinda was also thought to love this area and the chapel of S. Maria, close to the Chiesa della Gittana, may date from the time she spent here.

The magnificent scenery and mild climate are the most precious attributes of this tiny town.

If you have an eye for beauty and strong legs, walk up above the town: the view will broaden with every metre you gain in height, to your increasing amazement.

For a stronger thrill, try not to miss a visit to the Ravine of the Crot del Pepot, where the Esino river thunders through a narrow gorge.
