If you are looking for a real taste of history, somethimg to let you imagine what the Lake was like in medieval times, visit Dervio and climb up to the outlying hamlet of Corenno plinio, perched on a rockyncrag high above the lake. Enter the fortified enclosure belonging to the Andreani family and explore the old streets and stairs hewn out of the rock; don't forget to visit the church strangely dedicated to St. Thomas of Canterbury. Returning to the lake, down the steep stairway, tou will find yourself in front of the Neoclassical quay built by the architect, Luigi Cagnola. Then, glancing at the lake, you'll see the brightly coloured sails of the windsurfs racing by. Dervio is just like that: it offers glimpses of history and a flash of modernity, completely naturally, while the brilliant green valleys behind it look down completely unperturbed.
Make sure you take time to go for a walk there too, and don't leave Dervio without having visited the three churches.
