SOTTORIPA |
|
| Sauntering on a weekday in the late morning or mid afternoon in the streets of the old town, particularly in Sottoripa, we can appreciate the true essence ofa daily life in Genoa. There is the animation provided by the bustle of its inhabitants hurrying from one shop to another; there are the voices of people who have stopped to chat or of street salesmen; there are the perfumes and smells coming from the cafés, fried-food shops, grocer's shops and bars, typical of the narrow alleys. Most often the prevailing smell is the unmistakable perfume of pesto, the tasty green seasoning for pasta, the Ligurian speciality. Thanks to the new Aquarium, the biggest and most modern in Europe, built at the time of the Columbus celebrations in 1992, Genoa has had a new lease of life for tourism. A visit to the Aquarium is like an underwater trip around the world.
