| The Sila can be reached easily from Crotone. Villaggio Mancuso, the gateway to the Sila Piccola, is a mountain tourist resort open all year round. There is also Villaggio Palumbo, with efficient ski lift systems, a bob track and ice stadium. An excellent base for excursions in the Sila territory is San Giovanni in Fiore, a town whose history is linked to the figure of the famous Abbot Gioacchino da Fiore, who founded the austere Badia Florense in 1189. In the town you can also see the Demological Museum of Economy, Work and the social history of Sila. Among the old traditions jealously kept alive on Sila, in this town the Spadafora family of master goldsmiths still produce the same ornaments made by their ancestors, perpetuating the purest tradition of Calabrian goldsmithry.
